Singapore Indoor Stadium

Singapore Indoor Stadium (Chinese: 新加坡室內体育馆, Pinyin: Xīnjīapō shìnèi tǐyùguǎn; Malay: "Stadium Tertutup Singapura") is an indoor sporting arena located along the Kallang River in Singapore. It was completed in 1989 and was officially opened by the then prime minister Lee Kuan Yew on 31 December 1989. The arena was designed by Japanese architect Kenzo Tange and has a cone shaped roof and a pillarless arena. The stadium is within walking distance of the Singapore National stadium.

Capacity

Due to its flexible stage configuration, the capacity of the stadium varies from 7,306/7,968 during concerts to 8,126/10,786 during sporting events. Its full capacity is around 12,000.

Usage

Concerts and shows

Many singers, bands and musicians such as A-Mei,
Kylie Minogue, Avril Lavigne, David Bowie, Linkin Park, the Black Eyed Peas, Westlife, Backstreet Boys, Oasis, Coldplay, The Cure, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Janet Jackson, Il Divo, Sam Hui,S.H.E, Stefanie Sun, Sammi Cheng, Andy Lau, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani and The Click Five have held concerts at the indoor stadium when touring Singapore. The arena also plays host to family entertainment such as ice-skating shows, circuses and magic shows, opera, musical among others.

WWE has held events there, with the WWE brand "Raw" in 2002 and the WWE brand "SmackDown!" in 2003. On the 28 July 2007, the stadium played host to both the SmackDown! brand and the "ECW" brand in the "SmackDown!" SummerSlam Tour.

Since 2006, the stadium is home to the Singapore Slingers basketball club that competes in the Australian National Basketball League.

Behind the indoor stadium, there is a waterfront section known as Stadium Waterfront, which has retailing Shops and stores and restaurants. They offer alfresco dining, and there is a market occasionally.
