Styal nearManchester Airport inCheshire ,England . There is only a limited service during the peak hours to cater for commuters to/from Manchester.History
The station was opened in 1909 with the construction of the line from Wilmslow to Manchester London Road (Piccadilly) Station.
It enjoyed a half-hourly service in each direction as recently as the mid-1990s. The construction of the airport rail-link in 1993 saw Styal services being reduced towards the current level of only one northbound and two soutbound services each weekday. It is hoped that this might be reviewed positively in the future.
A website was being constructed in January 2008 at www.styal-station.org.uk to raise the profile of the station and seek to form a "Friends" group to protect its interests.
A petition has been created seek a resumption of a morning commuter service to Manchester and daytime services to serve HMP Styal and national trust Styal as well as local residents. The petition can be accessed via the www.styal-station.org.uk website.
The station is located on Station Road - 110 metres from the edge of the National Trust Quarry Bank Mill estate and 600m from Styal Prison.
