Electoral district of Willagee

Electoral district of Willagee

Willagee is an Electoral district of Western Australia. As in other districts, the Willagee district elects a single person to the Western Australian Legislative Assembly. The elected person is then known as the Member for Willagee, and is said to hold the seat of Willagee. As of 1996, the Member for Willagee is Premier Alan Carpenter who holds the seat for the Labor Party by a margin of 16.4%. The seat was retained by Mr Carpenter at the 2008 WA election.

Profile

Southern suburbs of Perth, including Willagee, O'Connor, Hilton, Samson, Coolbellup and Bibra Lake, along with parts of Kardinya, Palmyra, Hamilton Hill and Spearwood. The electorate covers 33 km².

History

A new seat created before the 1996 election with a notional Labor majority of only 2.0%. However, it saw one of Labor's best results in 1996, recording a 6.8% swing to Labor, the largest in the state. Another 6.9% swing to Labor in 2001 made it a very safe seat, the margin increased even further in the most recent redistribution.
