American Power Boat Association

The American Power Boat Association (APBA) is a New York non-profit, membership owned corporation that was created in 1903 by an act of the New York legislature as a racing association for powerboats. It is the United States sanctioning authority for the "Union Internationale Motonautique" (UIM), the world governing body for powerboat racing. The APBA sanctions races in a number of different categories including the Unlimited Hydroplanes, Inboard, Outboard Performance Craft, Stock Outboard, Modified Outboard, Pro Outboard, Outboard Drag, Offshore and Special Events classes. Each category comprises a number of different classes. There are also many smaller regional clubs, including South Shore Outboard Association, located in New England.

The APBA is headquartered in Eastpointe, Michigan, near Detroit. Its current President is Mark Weber and its current Executive Administrator is Gloria Urbin.

The movie "Madison" showcased the APBA as the organization responsible for setting up the races throughout the film.

The APBA Hall of Champions: The APBA annually inducts drivers from its categories of racing into the prestigious Hall of Champions. Membership in the Hall of Champions is limited to those drivers who have an extraordinary racing season during the previous year. The induction ceremony is held each year at the APBA's Annual Meeting.

Honor Squadron: The APBA Honor Squadron recognizes APBA members who have made a significant contribution to the APBA in service, technology or membership participation. Each year the APBA considers and accepts members into the Honor Squadron at the APBA Annual Meeting.
