Heliotrope is a pink-purple tint that is a representation of the color of the heliotrope flower.

The color heliotrope is a brilliant shade of purple.

Another name for this color is vivid Lavender.

Film

* Heliotrope is featured in the Pixar short Film entitled "Boundin'" where the friendly Jackalope tells the newly sheared and somewhat melancholy lamb, "Pink? Pink? Well, what’s wrong with pink? Seems you’ve got a pink kink in your think. Does it matter what color? Well, that gets a nope, be it pink, purple or heliotrope." This film appears on the silver screen before Disney movies. Others include "one man band" and "for the birds".

* In Oscar Wilde's "An Ideal Husband", Miss Cheveley enters wearing heliotrope in Act 1.

* In Anton Chekhov's "The Seagull", the character Trigorin describes heliotrope as "a widow's color, use it to describe a summer evening," implying that in late 19th century Russia heliotrope was associated with widows.

* In Elizabeth Goudge's "The Little White Horse", the protagonist's governess is "Miss Heliotrope" and is frequently found wearing, or possessing objects, the color of heliotrope.

* In "Thank You, Jeeves", Bertie Wooster returns home to find Pauline Stoker in his heliotrope pajamas after swimming ashore from her father's yacht.

*In "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows", the Mafalda Hopkirk Polyjuice potion is "a pleasant heliotrope color."

Radio Comedy

* Heliotrope was a popular color reference of Ray Galton and Alan Simpson, script writers of "Hancock's Half Hour". In "The Last of the McHancocks", the McHancock tartan was described by Tony Hancock as, "Puce and lemon squares on a background of heliotrope; and very racy it is too" and in "Hancock's car" the said car is "Orange and Heliotrope".

School colors

* Heliotrope is one of the school colors for Purchase College, SUNY, a liberal arts college in the suburbs of NYC, the other color being puce.

Television

* In the BBC series Red Dwarf episode "Terraform", Kryten's POVs lists his status as several colors, including mauve and heliotrope.

* In the BBC sci-fi drama series Doctor Who, the group of Time Lords known as the Patrexeans wear heliotrope.
