Johor ,Malaysia . It is also part of theIskandar Malaysia "(formerlyIskandar Development Region )". It connectsSenai in western Johor toDesaru in eastern Johor. The expressway measures a total length of 77 km (-- miles). Travelling time will be shorten from a 2 hour journey to a 45 minutes journey from Senai (west) to Desaru (east).History
Previously, the
Johor Bahru-Kota Tinggi Highway (Federal route JKR|3) andPengerang Highway (Federal route JKR|92) was the only gateway to Desaru, with a typical journey of 2 hours. Construction of the expressway began in2005 . The construction is led bySenai Desaru Expressway Berhad with a main contractor,Ranhill Engineers & Constructors Sdn Bhd . The phase 1 of the expressway linking Senai to Pasir Gudang is scheduled to be ready by June2008 , with the rest of the project completed by December2008 .Features
The tolled expressway will be a four-lane dual carriageway which improves road connection between western and eastern Johor. It features a closed toll system like the North-South Expressway. It will also be an alternative route to Desaru Beach, instead of Federal Route JKR|3 and JKR|92 from
Johor Bahru andSingapore . The highway will also be the main access road to Desaru fromNorth-South Expressway Southern Route MES-E|2 and major road link toSenai International Airport fromKota Tinggi and eastern parts of Johor. Construction of the bridge will include the 1.7 kilometreSungai Johor Bridge , acable stayed bridge acrossJohor River . When completed, it will become a major landmark of Johor and become the longest river bridge inMalaysia after Raja Pemaisuri Bainun Bridge (Sungai Dinding Bridge) inPerak .List of Interchanges
