The parore (in New Zealand), or luderick, black bream, or blackfish (in Australia), "Girella tricuspidata", is a sea chub of the family "Kyphosidae", also closely related to the black drummer (rock blackfish), zebra fish and bluefish.

It is found around eastern Australia from southern Queensland to Port Phillip Bay in Victoria and occasionally the north eastern tip of Tasmania. In New Zealand they are found around the North Island.

They are usually encountered by spear and rod fisherman. They grow to 70 cm and weigh as much as 4 kg but those usually encountered are between 20 and 40 cm and between 0.5 and 1 kg. They live in harbours, estuaries, wave washed zones and rocky reef areas, in depths of up to 4 m.

The parore or luderick can range from a silver-grey colour to a dark bronze but always with around 10 to 12 dark grey vertical bars along the flanks, with the lower half of their head a dull yellow. An unusual feature is that the sexes have differently shaped teeth. They feed on algae, particularly lettuce-leaf seaweed, and crabs, shrimps, and worms, depending on whether they are on an open coast or in a river mouth or estuary.

They are not generally fished for in New Zealand, the flesh regarded as inferior, but in New South Wales anglers take them using lettuce-leaf seaweed or fine silken algae weed bait. Generally not a by-catch they are a relatively specialised angling target. They are also sold as net caught fish.
