Trnovo is one of the nine municipalities of the Sarajevo Canton. It is located a few kilometers south of the city of Sarajevo. The seat of the municipality is in Dejčići, although the municipal council uses the "Maršal" Hotel on Mount Bjelašnica as the official meeting hall. As the pre-war municipality (also called Trnovo) was divided by the 1995 Dayton Accords, the actual town of Trnovo is now located in the Republika Srpska.

Demographics

According to data from the municipality, it is the least populous municipality in the canton, with a population of 1747. It is also the least densely populated of the nine Municipalities, and has the highest percentage of people over 65 years of age.

Ethnically, 95.4% are Bosniaks and 4.6% are Serbs with no reported Croats and others.

In 2005, 96% of population of the municipality were ethnic Bosniaks.

Tourism

The mountain of Bjelašnica is located within the municipality, offering possibilities for tourism development. However, until there is sufficient infrastructure for tourism development, agriculture remains the main branch of the economy. The stunning Rakitnica canyon is also located within Trnovo municipality.
