The Carling Academy Islington is a music venue off Upper Street, in the London Borough of Islington. It is run by the Academy Music Group. The main venue has a capacity of 800, and the adjacent Bar Academy holds 250.[ [http://www.islington-academy.co.uk/history.php "Venue History"] (official site) accessed 19 August 2008] ]The venue, which forms part of the N1 Centre, was purpose built and opened in September 2002. The original occupant was the short lived Marquee N1, a music and dining venue backed by David A. Stewart of Eurythmics and club promoter Mark Fuller.It re-opened in its current form in September 2003 and is the smallest of the three London venues within the Carling Academy Group. References
