"Regarding Henry" is a 1991 film directed by Mike Nichols, starring Harrison Ford and Annette Bening. The screenplay was written by J. J. Abrams. The original music score was composed by Hans Zimmer. The film's tagline is: "The story of a man who had everything, but found something more."

Plot

Henry Turner (Harrison Ford) is a successful Manhattan-based attorney but he's also a self-absorbed narcissist who has little time for his wife or daughter. But one night when he goes out to buy a pack of cigarettes, he receives gunshot wounds to the head and chest during a robbery, resulting in brain damage. One bullet hit the right frontal lobe, which controls some behavior and restraint. The more serious injury, however, was the bullet to the chest, which hit the sub-clavian artery and caused excessive internal bleeding and cardiac arrest. Henry experienced anoxia (also known as hypoxia), lack of oxygen to the brain, which caused most of the damage.

Henry survives, but he initially cannot move or talk or remember anyone or anything. He regains movement and speech with help from Bradley, his physical therapist. Henry returns home and discovers that he did not like the person he was before. Henry finds that he has trouble remaining a lawyer, as his firm takes away his old assignments and large office, and essentially assigns him busy work. Henry also forges a new relationship with his wife and daughter and they are all the happier for it. Henry forgets he wanted a divorce from his wife before the accident and when he finds letters from a former colleague disclosing an affair his so-called friend had with his wife before the accident, he gets angry and upset and leaves home. He then realizes he'd had an affair with Linda, a fellow attorney at his firm, before the accident. Thinking he made the right decision in breaking off the affair, he returns to his wife to start a new relationship with her and his daughter.

Reception

Annette Bening won the newcomer of the year London Film Critics Circle award; [cite web|url=http://criticscircle.org.uk/critics_circle/film_in.asp|title=International newcomer of the year|publisher=London Film Critics Circle|accessdate=2006-03-19] and the film was nominated for two Young Artist Awards: best family motion picture - drama, and best young actress starring in a motion picture for Mikki Allen.

Trivia

The movie was parodied in the "Rugrats" episode "Regarding Stuie" in which Stu receives a head injury and temporarily thinks he is a baby.

Some scenes in the movie were filmed in Millbrook, NY at the Millbrook School.

In the videogame Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Henry "Indiana" Jones (another character played by Harrison Ford) looks through an old collection and finds school letters from the principal to Indiana's father; the notes all begin with the phrase, "Regarding Henry".

Some of the scenes were filmed in the Manhattan office of former Secretary of State and Attorney General William P. Rogers. The office is located inside the MetLife Building which at that time was called the Pan Am Building.

Donald Moffat and Ford appears together again in Clear and Present Danger (film). Moffat would once again play Ford's boss, this time a fictional President of the United States to Ford's fictional Acting Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
