MarketWatch operates a financial information website that provides business news, analysis and stock market data to some 6 million people. MarketWatch offers personal finance news and advice, tools for investors and access to industry research. Along with its flagship website, the company operates BigCharts.com and the stock market simulation site VirtualStockExchange.com. MarketWatch produces the syndicated MarketWatch Weekend television program and provides radio updates every 30 minutes on the MarketWatch.com Radio Network. It also offers subscription products for individual investors, including the Hulbert Financial Digest suite of products, Retirement Weekly and ETF Trader.

MarketWatch, formerly known as CBS Marketwatch, operated in partnership with Viacom's CBS News. Once a publicly traded company, MarketWatch was 45% owned by Viacom (now CBS Corporation after split from this company) and Pearson PLC before Dow Jones acquired it in January 2005 for $530 million. It is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Dow Jones, which in turn is owned by News Corporation. MarketWatch is part of Dow Jones' Consumer Media Group, along with The Wall Street Journal, Barron's, the WSJ.com and affiliated Internet properties. Through the Rupert Murdoch-controlled News Corp. ownership, MarketWatch is also affiliated with, among many other global media properties, the New York Post, The Times of London, Fox News Channel and multiple other 20th Century Fox spinoffs, and HarperCollins publishers. David Callaway is Editor-in-Chief.[1] Peter Brimelow is a contributor, amongst 16 columnists who supplement the news reporting.[1]
