Pelinkovac

Pelinkovac or Пелинковац is a bitter liqueur based on wormwood, popular in Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, and Bosnia-Herzegovina, as well as in Slovenia, where it is known as pelinkovec or pelinovec. It is sometimes also referred to simply as pelin.

The alcohol volume is: 28%-35% Vol. It has a very bitter taste, resembling that of Jägermeister. The most famous brands are "Gorki List" (Bitter Leaf), "Maraska" Pelinkovac and "Badel" pelinkovac. Badel's pelinkovac is closer to the taste of Jägermeister, sweeter and less bitter, while Gorki List is thicker and has more bitter taste.Maraska's pelinkovac is very popular in Croatia.Gorki List contains around 26 types of herb essences, while wormwood is the main ingredient. Alcohol volume in both is 28%.

There is also a Romanian cusine drink called vin pelin (wormwood wine), consisting mainly of bittered wine.

In Hungary, Unicum is a very popular bitter liqueur, similar to Pelinkovac in taste, but with a higher alcohol volume of 40%.
