Wang Kelian

Wang Kelian

Wang Kelian is a Perlis border town on the Malaysia-Thailand Border. It is one of two border crossings between Malaysia and Thailand in the state of Perlis. The other is Padang Besar. The village across the border from Wang Kelian is Wang Prachan in Satun province, Southern Thailand.

The village was a popular destinations for tourists and locals on Saturdays and Sundays because of a huge market on both sides of the border. The governments of Malaysia and Thailand at that time allowed people to move freely across the border to shop without the need for any documents. However, the document-free crossing practice ended in December 2007 [cite web |url=http://bernama.com.my/bernama/v3/news.php?id=303432 |title=Travel Document-free Visit To Wang Kelian Revoked - Johari |accessdate=2008-02-18 |author= |date=December 18, 2007 |publisher="Bernama")] because the Malaysian government said the arrangements created security problems. Wang Kelian is usually used as a base for visits to the Perlis State Park.
