Historical tale (歴史物語 rekishi monogatari) is a category of Japanese literature.

Notable historical tales are:
*"A Tale of Flowering Fortunes" (Eiga monogatari)
*"The Great Mirror" (Okagami)
*"Today's Mirror" (Imakagami)
*"The Water Mirror" (Mizukagami)
*"The Clear Mirror" (Masukagami)
*"Rokudai Shojiki" written in the Kamakura period.
