John Keen

John Keen

John David Percy "Speedy" Keen (29 March 1945 – 21 March 2002) was a member of the band Thunderclap Newman. He was born in Ealing, West London.

Career

Before joining Thunderclap Newman, he was the chauffeur for The Who's guitarist, Pete Townshend. He is famous among fans of The Who for writing "Armenia City in the Sky" for the group, the lead-off track on "The Who Sell Out". This was the only song The Who ever performed that was specifically written for the group by a non-member. He also wrote the hit song "Something In The Air" for Thunderclap Newman, and was later a record producer for The Heartbreakers and Motörhead. He was sometimes incorrectly billed as "John Keene".

Keen died suddenly at the age of 56 in 2002.
