Paul Stephenson (police officer)

Sir Paul Robert Stephenson QPM, born in Bacup, Lancashire, England is the Deputy Commissioner of London's Metropolitan Police Service, and as such is second-in-command. He was appointed in 2005 from his position as Chief Constable of Lancashire Constabulary. He has also served as Deputy Chief Constable in Lancashire and Assistant Chief Constable in Merseyside Police. He joined the police service in 1975.

He was knighted in the 2008 Birthday Honours. in September 2008 it was announced he would become Acting Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police from 1 December following the resignation of Sir Ian Blair.
