Lee Briers is a rugby league player who plays stand-off for Warrington Wolves. He formerly played for St Helens RFC, breaking into the first team as a teenager, standing in for the suspended captain Bobbie Goulding, and helping guide the Saints through to the 1997 Rugby League Challenge Cup final, winning the Man Of The Match award in the semi-final defeat of Salford. However, the return of Goulding meant Briers was dropped to the reserves, missing out on an appearance in the final & Warrington Wolves stepped in to secure his signature in a £65,000 move.

Briers continued in the half-back role, a position that has at times in his career been challenged by various signings, resulting in him playing in short spells at full-back. Having fought off such challenges he has established himself as one of the most accomplished half-backs in Super League.

Briers is well known for his excellent kicking skills and his ability to successfully convert drop goals. He currently holds the Super League record, and jointly Warrington all-time record (with Paul Bishop), for the most number of drop goals in a game (5 against Halifax at The Shay). In 2006 he became Warrington's leading all-time drop-goal scorer, and at the end of the 2006 season has 50 to his name in Wolves' colours.

He also holds the record for points in a match (40 through 14 goals & 3 tries) and goals in a match (14) both recorded in the Challenge Cup against York in 2000.

Briers is captain of the Wales national rugby league team, and was recently selected in the back-up squad for the 2006 Tri-Nations competition in Australia and New Zealand, playing in Britain's warm-up game in Newcastle. However, he was controversially over-looked for the full series, with many believing he would have offered Britain's one dimensional attack the variety it badly needed.

The 2008 Super League season is Briers' 11th and he stepped down as captain at the end of the 2007 season. Currently fourth in the all-time points scoring list for the club, Harry Bath is next in Briers' sights. Only Brian Bevan and Steve Hesford have scored more for the famous club.
