Luminar currently specialises in nightclubs, bars and restaurants and are expanding as a result in the increased revenue to be found in the night entertainment industry.

Luminar Group Holdings plc was established in 1988 with the opening of its first Nightclub, Manhattan Nitespot in King's Lynn. The continued growth in the discotheque division and the creation of the popular Chicago Rock Cafe concept meant Luminar became the most successful leisure company of the early 1990's. Luminar has recently sold the Entertainment division that included the Jumpin Jaks and Chicago Rock Cafe brands to 3D Entertainment [cite news|url=http://www.leisureopportunities.co.uk/LOemail/wider_newsdetail.cfm?codeID=19330|title= 3D Entertainment begins trading|date=24 January 2007|accessdate=2007-10-21] .

A private equity group (UK) have recently instigated an opposition programme to Luminar with the development of a new high street drink, dance and dine venue chain. Largely managed by former Luminar employees, the new company has considerable funding for the development of its first units. At present the company is actively researching the market and has declined to comment further. The new company recently caused waves when it was announced the operations manager was just 24 years old (Robert Forster), in line with the markets target audience. The chairman, a former executive with Pearl Assurance, M&G and Royal & Sun Alliance quotes "The future is developing very quickly, our competitors are too slow to adapt, we are responding strategically to socio-market changes every day. It is a very, very exciting time...".
