Notes

1During the governorship of Jacques de Chambly, Acadia was briefly captured by Jurriaen Aernoutsz, a privateer from Curaçao, who declared Acadia a territory of The Netherlands. Aernoutsz subsequently returned to Curaçao, appointing John Rhoades to administer the territory in his absence. However, Rhoades lost control of the territory within a few months, and control of the region reverted to France. The Dutch West India Company later appointed Cornelius Van Steenwyk as Dutch governor of "New Holland", although this was largely a paper designation as the Dutch did not actually have control of the territory.
