DVTK Stadion is a multi-purpose stadium in Miskolc, Hungary. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium is able to hold 17,000 people. It is the home of the Diósgyőri VTK.

History

The DVTK held their matches from 1911 to 1939 near the diner of the Ironworks. The opening of the stadium was in 25 June 1939 "Nagyarányú érdeklődés, impozáns keretek és fényes külsőségek között avatta fel a Diósgyőri MÁVAG Sport Club a vasgyárban épült hatalmas és teljesen korszerű sporttelepét." A stadionban rendezett első mérkőzésen a DiMÁVAG együttese a Kispest ellen győzedelmeskedett 6:2 arányban".

The Stadium had a big expansion in 1968, and a full-new stadium was opened in 26 May 1968 with among 22, 000 seat. That time it was the biggest stadium in the country outside Budapest. The viewers record was in 27 November 1968, when app. 35, 000 people saw the game against the Ferencvárosi TC. Today's capacity is about 17, 000, because of closed stands, and security reasons (The directors always leave free two stands to separate the two crowd of fans).

Nowadays the Complex has a big stadium with the western Main stand built in 1939, and the other 3 wings built in 1968, with grass surface and a rekortan covered runnig track, where football matches and athletich championships are held. The Complex contains one grass surfaced training field build in 1977, one with plastic-grass build in 2006 and two others with cinder covering opened in the 60s. The artificial-grass covered field has lightning. Near the stadium there is a roofed training field, the former boxer's arena, re-opened for soccer in 2009. The state of the stadium is not perfect, the renovation of the stadium is unadjornable, but in fact this is the most modern arena in Eastern Hungary. The lightning was installed and began operating in 15 November 2003, the Main stand (built in 1939) had its first renovation in 2005-06, and after a whole modernization it was opened in 23 April 2006 with 1504 roofed seats. In 2009-2010 the eastern-wing of the 40 year old stands where demolished and for the 100th birthday of the club, there was built a whole new roofed stand with buffet, restrooms, and 3137 seats on the so-called "Sunny wing" or "Napos oldal" (because when the games held - afternoon - the sun keep shining in front of the crowd, so they could not see enough). The building began in 10 August 2009 and the opening ceremony was held in 6 March 2010. The 2009-10 renovation cost 400 Million HUF. There is a program to spend 400 million Hungarian Forint for renovation in the next year also.

From 1992 to 2000, the name of the field was DFC Stadium, because that time the team changed its name from DVTK to Diósgyőr Football club. In the 2007-2008 season the name of the stadium was DVTK-Borsodi Stadium, because of sponsoration.

It has a famous stand, the Csáki-stand, named after a fan József Csáki.

Location

The arena can be reached with the mass-transport system of Miskolc, from the railway station with the tram No. 1 to the "Stadion" stop, or with the buses 1, 1A from the railway station and 6, 29 from Újgyőri Főtér. Travel with car from Budapest on the national road 3 or M30 motorway turn to the Északi tehermentesítő way in Búza Square, than drive through the Győri Kapu street.
