Kvikne

Kvikne is a former municipality in Hedmark, Norway and a mountain village between Østerdalen and Trøndelag. The river Orkla begins in Kvikne. Further south the river Tunna descends to meet the Glomma.

Kvikne was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). It was split January 1, 1966, with the "Kvikne" village (with 664 residents) incorporated into Tynset municipality in Hedmark, and "Innset" village (with 420 residents) incorporated into Rennebu municipality in Sør-Trøndelag. The greatest portion of the land became part of Tynset. In 1970 the farm "Garlia" with 5 residents was transferred from Tynset to Rennebu.

The famous Norwegian author, Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson was born on the Bjørgan farm in Kvikne.

Vollan gård in Kvikne is the national park center for Forollhogna National Park. The farm was the site for filming of the "Secondløitnant" in 1993.

The name

The Norse form of the name was (probably) "*Kviknar". The meaning of the name is unknown.
