Company history

Magic Software Enterprises was founded in 1983 by David Assia and Yaki Dunietz, as a spin-off from Mashov Computers, a publicly traded Israeli company that provided business solutions on microcomputers. The new company was originally named Mashov Software Export (MSE), and developed software for the global market – specifically an Application Generator named Magic. Mashov’s major innovation was a metadata-driven approach to programming that required no compiling or linking, and also allowed instantaneous debugging. During the 1980s, the company grew based on its sales to the DOS and UNIX platforms. The product was used by many large organizations, including the Israel Defence Forces.

In 1991, the company changed its name to "Magic Software Enterprises" (retaining the acronym "MSE") and became the first Israeli software company to go public on the NASDAQ. During this period the company developed a close relationship with IBM, focusing on AS/400 systems. Later, Magic completely redeveloped its platform for the Windows architecture and renamed it eDeveloper. This was a graphical, rules-based, and event-driven framework that offered:

• A pre-compiled engine suited for database business tasks

• A declarative programming methodology

• A repository of basic application modules for easy reference and re-use

• A wide variety of generic services and functions configured and invoked at runtime

In October 2003, Magic released iBOLT, an integration suite that simplifies the design and integration process by separating business logic from integration technology. Drag-and-drop components, wizards and tables allow users to connect with enterprise applications deployed on any hardware, on any operating system, and using any database technology.

In July 2008, Magic released uniPaaS, which replaced eDeveloper as Magic Software’s application development platform. uniPaaS is targeted at the delivery of rich internet applications, combining the stability and security of desktop applications with the flexibility, agility and user experience of the web.

Products

Magic Software’s current products are:

uniPaaS is an application platform for designing, developing and deploying business applications. uniPaaS can be used to build and deploy full client, mobile, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), and rich internet applications (RIA). With uniPaaS, all aspects of the application development and deployment process are contained within a single end-to-end platform. A ready-made business application engine simplifies the code-writing process, resulting in a faster time to market. Applications developed using uniPaaS’s metadata-driven methodology typically have fewer coding mistakes, undergo more thorough prototyping, and can be more easily adapted to changing business needs.

iBOLT is a business and process integration suite that is designed to integrate diverse applications and to provide a synchronized, real-time view of a company’s business data. iBOLT is code-free and contains a comprehensive library of components that make it easy to integrate with applications such as SAP Business One, Salesforce.com, JD Edwards, IBM i, Lotus Notes, and HL7. iBOLT allows you to create simple and complex business processes and flows by dragging, dropping and configuring these components instead of writing code. iBOLT automatically applies changes to mission-critical data to every IT system in the integration project. This saves on manpower costs, reduces human error and improves a business's overall productivity.
