Harlow Mill railway station serves the town of Harlow in Essex, England. The station, and all trains serving it, are operated by National Express East Anglia.

History

The station was opened in 1842 as Harlow railway station on the Northern and Eastern Railway's line between London and Bishop's Stortford. It served the village of the same name, located on the London to Cambridge toll road. In the late 1940's, as the new town of Harlow was being built, the original village of Harlow was named Old Harlow and incorporated as a district in the new town. The station was renamed Harlow Mill on July 13 1960 after the mill on the River Stort, just north of the station.

Incidents

The station was the scene of an accident which caused the deaths of two people on April 15 2008. The driver of an approaching train spotted a man and a woman on the tracks at the station, sounded his horn and applied the emergency brake but was unable to avoid striking the pair. Police confirmed that they died at the scene. The train was not due to stop at the station and was travelling at 80mph. [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7347975.stm]

ervices

All services at the station are operated by National Express East Anglia. Though train services stopping here are not as frequent as Harlow Town, there are direct trains most of the day to London Liverpool Street and Bishops Stortford, as well as weekday services to Stansted Airport and Stratford.
