Dublin street corners

Dublin street corners

Several well-known junctions in Dublin city still carry the name of the pub or business which used to occupy the corner.

While this practice is by no means unique to Dublin, the pace of recent development there has meant that the original source of the name is more likely to have disappeared.

Examples include:

  • Doyle's Corner: in Phibsboro at the junction of the Phibsboro Road and the North Circular Road the N2 and N3
  • Hart's Corner: in Glasnevin at the junction of Botanic Road and St Mobhi Road
  • Kelly's Corner: at the junction of Camden Street and Harrington Street, (South Circular Road), at the edge of Portobello. Bus 16a comes from Dublin Airport (DUB) and stops at Kelly's Corner
  • Leonard's Corner: at the junction of South Circular Road and Clanbrassil Street
  • Baker's Corner: in Deansgrange
  • Hanlon's Corner: at the junction of the North Circular Road with the Old Cabra Road
  • Vaughan's Corner: in Terenure

Other street corners have been christened after influential Irish people, for example Rory Gallagher Corner in Temple Bar.
