University of Waterloo School of Planning

The School of Planning is one of the professional schools at the University of Waterloo, a component of the University's Faculty of Environmental Studies.

Similar to programs such as engineering, architecture, and law, Planning is a professional program. Waterloo's School of Planning, established in 1969, has an honours undergraduate program, in addition to Master's and Doctoral programs. The School is the only planning school in Canada to offer planning degrees at the Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral levels.

Graduates and students can join professional associations such as the [http://www.cip-icu.ca Canadian Institute of Planners] and [http://www.ontarioplanners.on.ca/ Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI)] to meet practising planners and to learn about the latest issues in planning.

The School's programs and courses provide students with skills and perspectives necessary for successful careers as professional planners. Students are encouraged to explore widely the various academic offerings throughout the University in order to achieve their unique intellectual potential as individuals.

Co-op

Undergraduate students can complete their degree through the co-operative education system of study (co-op). By integrating 4-month work terms into their degree, students graduate with 16 months of paid work experience in jobs relating to urban planning.

Careers

Upon graduation, students are well-prepared for further education or careers in areas such as urban and regional planning, resource development, environmental planning, geographic information systems (GIS), local economic development, urban design, business, public administration, and law.
