Description

WONY is the college radio station of the SUNY Oneonta. It was founded in 1962 and membership consists of over 80 students, faculty, and members of the community. It broadcasts at 180 watts on 90.9 FM and a webcast run by Live365.

Physical

WONY is located on the State University of New York College At Oneonta campus. WONY's antenna latitude is 42.452N and longitude is 75.064W. The studios are located on the ground floor of Alumni Hall, behind the University Police and underneath the Admissions Office.

*The main control room of the station ("Studio A") contains the essential on-air equipment: the console, two microphones, CD players, a minidisc player, two turntables, and a computer. Also in Studio A are the various rotations and the main engineering rack.

*The Music Library houses WONY's collection - at last approximation, it exceeded 12,000 CDs! The Library also doubles as a guest studio, as it is equipped with eight microphone jacks and a headphone amplifier. This is also where live bands play when performing on-air.

*The old News Studio ("Studio B") is somewhat in limbo. It currently houses the old console, several CD changers, a tape player, two turntables, one computer, and a minidisc player and recorder. The studio is not used for recording since the building of a new News Studio; however, the console is wired to Studio A and could be used as a backup control room.

*The new News Studio ("Studio C") has been outfitted as a small digital studio. It contains an Alesis mixer, a Shure SM7B microphone, and a customized computer. The news is recorded into Windows Media Audio format using Adobe Systems' Audacity software.

*The Operations room houses WONY's important documents, miscellaneous equipment, and webcasting server.

*The Music Office is a place for the genre directors to work. CDs are sorted and reviewed here, using the stations Macintosh G3.

*The Sparaco Lounge is a place for DJs and guests to relax. It is named after the first General Manager of WONY, Mr. Gary Sparaco.

The Executive Board for the 2008-2009 school year.

Other important figures at WONY include the station's faculty advisor, Dave Ring, and the Chief Engineer, Mr. Bob Kafarski.
