Ustad Mohammad Hashem Cheshti

Ustad Mohammad Hashem Cheshti was a famous contemporary Tajik classical musician and composer born in Kharabat area of Kabul Afghanistan, who died in 1994 in Germany under unclear circumstances. Ustad Hashem was born and raised in an extremely musical family. Several of his close family members, including his brothers and his father are/were also famous musicians in their own right. He mastered many different traditional persian (Tajik) and "Indian" (in fact, most instruments in India are originally from central Asia) instruments, but his greatest passion was for the tabla, his mastership of which was supreme. Following the Russian invasion of Afghanistan he had to flee his home country and emigrated to Germany where he died in 1994, murdered by one of his former students for reasons unknown. Ustad Hashem was born and brought up in an extremely musical family. Several of his close family members, including his brothers and his father are/were also famous musicians in their own right. Ustad Hashem left many important compositions, following closely Classical central asian´s persian or Indo-Persian (Indian) style, but with clear traditional persian Khurasani elements.
