Kopytka

Kopytka, "kapytki" (literally "little hooves") are a kind of potato dumpling. They are very similar to gnocchi although they are typically served baked with cheese, fried bacon or onion. Known in the Belarusian, Lithuanian and Polish cuisines.

Etymology

The name "kopytka" in Polish, means little hooves of any little hoofed animal (for example, a goat), as well as the word "kapytki" in Belarusian. That's because of those potato dumplings shape very similar to real hooves.

Polish dish usually just being cooked in salted water; in Belarusian and Lithuanian cuisines karytki to be baked first, then stewed or boiled in a water as well.
