village andcivil parish withinSouth Bucks district inBuckinghamshire ,England . Originally a village in its own right, today it is considered by many to be a part ofGerrards Cross , though residents of Fulmer like to maintain that it is a separate place. The village name is Anglo-Saxon in origin, and means "lake frequented by birds". It was recorded in manorial rolls in 1198 as "Fugelmere".
In the late 17th century the owners of the manor in Fulmer were forced to sell their house to their servants because they had squandered away their money and could not afford to pay them. The manor then passed into the hands of the
Duke of Portland .In the mid 1800's
Watercress was grown at Moor Farm, known locally as "The Bog", (now Low Farm) by Richard Whiting Bradbery, the son ofWilliam Bradbery , the watercress pioneer who had a large cress farm at West Hyde, Hertfordshire. Richard is buried in St.James church yard Fulmer, with his wife Hannah.Today the common land that surrounds Fulmer to the south is the brand of leafy picturesque countryside that most people think of when they think of Buckinghamshire. Many
film s have been shot in this area, including "Sleepy Hollow". The ford was the setting for the famous "Get out and Push!" scene in the classicKenneth More film Genevieve".Notable Residents
