- Banjšice Plateau
The Banjšice Plateau ( _sl. Banjška planota, _it. Altopiano della Bainsizza) is a
karst ic plateau in westernSlovenia , in theGoriška region. It is located north-west of the town ofNova Gorica , overlooking theSoča River. DuringWorld War One , the Italian and theAustro-Hungarian Army fought in theEleventh Battle of the Isonzo on the plateau in August 1917.The plateau was named after the village of
Banjšice , which is most probably the oldest settlement on the plateau. The other settlements on this largely unpopulated area are: Bate,Grgarske Ravne , andLokovec . Traditionally, the villages on the plateau used to gravitate towardsKanal ob Soči and partially towardsGrgar andSolkan , but nowadays they are all included in the municipality ofNova Gorica , where most of the locals work.ee also
