January 31 ,1941 inPortage, Pennsylvania ) is a retired Americanbasketball player.A 6'8" power forward/center, Chappell was a star at
Wake Forest University , were he was namedACC Men's Basketball Player of the Year in 1961 and 1962. He was the ACC tournament's all-time leading scorer untilDuke University 'sJ. J. Redick surpassed him in 2006. After his college career, he spent 9 years (1962–1971) in theNational Basketball Association as a member of the Syracuse Nationals/Philadelphia 76ers,New York Knicks ,Chicago Bulls , Cincinnati Royals,Detroit Pistons ,Milwaukee Bucks ,Cleveland Cavaliers , andAtlanta Hawks . Chappell played in the1964 NBA All-Star Game , and he scored 5,621 NBA career points. He also played one season (1971–1972) with the Dallas Chaparrals of the now defunctAmerican Basketball Association .External links
