Shelby County Schools (Tennessee)

Shelby County Schools (Tennessee)

The Shelby County School District is the fourth largest school system in Tennessee with a population of over 45,000 students.

The district includes almost all of the public schools in Shelby County outside the corporate limits of the city of Memphis, including those schools located within the six incorporated towns of Arlington, Bartlett, Collierville, Germantown, Lakeland and Millington. In January 2002, the Shelby County Schools Board of Education selected Dr. Bobby G. Webb as the 22nd Superintendent of Shelby County Schools. He is the only superintendent to be recognized twice by the Tennessee Organization of School Superintendents as Tennessee's Superintendent of the Year for 1996 and 2001.

Accreditation

The Shelby County School District is a fully accredited school district. Every school meets the approved standards of the Tennessee State Department of Education and the accreditation standards of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Accreditation by SACS is the highest level of approval available to elementary, middle and secondary schools. The Shelby County School District was the first large district in Tennessee to be accredited in its entirety by SACS.
