Stuart Reges

Stuart Reges is a senior lecturer of Computer Science at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. Reges is currently in charge of redesigning their introductory Computer Science courses using a late-objects approach in Java. Along with coauthor Marty Stepp, Reges has written an introductory Java programming textbook titled "Building Java Programs: A Back to Basics Approach".

Reges has lectured at Stanford University where he was awarded with the Dinkelspiel Award for Outstanding Service to Undergraduate Education and the Distinguished Advisor Award for Stanford's School of Engineering. He has also taught at the University of Arizona where he was awarded with University of Arizona's College of Science Distinguished Teaching Award.

Reges's history at Stanford is marked with recognized excellence in teaching and with his dismissal on the grounds of violating a number of policies including the university's drug policy by consulting a student on his use of MDA and by carrying illegal drugs in his backpack (among other violations). The legitimacy of the policies and what constitutes their violation remains contested by Reges.

Reges is also active in the Libertarian Party and the Gay Rights movement.
