The Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS) non-profit institution, founded in 1993, to inform the public about science and policy issues affecting international security, particularly relating to nuclear weapons. It is led by former United Nations IAEA nuclear inspector David Albright, and is based in Washington, D.C.. Its moto is "Employing Science in the Pursuit of Peace".
The organization has produced ground-breaking technical analyses of nuclear proliferant programs, particularly programs in North Korea, Iran, and Pakistan. By working with scientists from known or suspected proliferating states, including Israel, South Africa, Brazil, and Iraq, as well as by working with highly knowledgable technical experts from the United States, Great Britian, and other nuclear weapon states, ISIS has amassed a wealth of technical knowledge and capability to prepare detailed, technical analyses of how states have sought nuclear weapons, and the pros and cons of various strategies intended to slow or stop proliferation.
