Sydney Harbour Federation Trust

Sydney Harbour Federation Trust

The Sydney Harbour Federation Trust is a body created by the Australian Commonwealth Government to manage and plan the future of a series of former defence and other Commonwealth government owned properties in and around Sydney Harbour. As a Commonwealth Government entity, the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust should not be confused with the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority or the Sydney Harbour National Park, both of which also manage property on or around Sydney Harbour and is often confused with the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, but are entities of the New South Wales State Government.

The trust was established by the "Sydney Harbour Federation Trust Act 2001", which was passed by Federal Parliament in March 2001. This act requires the Harbour Trust to conserve and preserve land in the Sydney Harbour region for the benefit of present and future generations of Australians. The properties currently being managed by the trust include:

*Cockatoo Island
*Georges Heights, Chowder Bay and Middle Head
*Middle Head Fortifications
*Georges Head Battery
*Lower Georges Heights Commanding Position
*Shark Point Battery
*Bradleys Head Fortification Complex
*Former School of Artillery, North Head
*Woolwich Dock and Parklands
*Macquarie Lighthouse
*Snapper Island
*Former Marine Biological Station, Watsons Bay
*HMAS Platypus
