Martin Cheek

Dr. Martin Roy Cheek (born 1960) is a taxonomist and botanist specialising in the carnivorous plant genus Nepenthes.

Research

Cheek has described several new Nepenthes species, mostly with Matthew Jebb, including: N. argentii,[1] N. aristolochioides,[1] N. danseri,[1] N. diatas,[1] N. hurrelliana,[2] N. lamii,[1] N. mira,[3] N. murudensis,[1] and N. thai.[4] Cheek and Jebb also raised N. macrophylla to species rank.[1] Cheek and Jebb revised the genus in two major monographs: "A skeletal revision of Nepenthes (Nepenthaceae)" (1997)[1] and "Nepenthaceae" (2001).[5]

Cheek and his research are featured in the documentary The Mists of Mwanenguba.[6]
