Varma or Varman is an honorific title and surname, Originally affixed to the names of Kshatriya rulers [ [http://dsal.uchicago.edu/cgi-bin/philologic/search3advanced?dbname=platts&query=varma&matchtype=exact&display=utf8 Platts dictionary of Urdu and Classical Hindi] ] in India and South East Asia, "Varma" (or "Varman") is also used as a surname in modern times mostly by Kshatriya communities in South India like Rajus of Andhra Pradesh and the Malayala Kshatriyas. This should not be confused with Verma, another Indian surname.

* The title "Varma" or "Varman" was used as a secondary title by many rulers in princely states of India, and in South East Asia like
** Vishnukundinas
** Chalukyas
** Cholas
** Pallavas
** Pandyas
** Gahlots (ancestors of Sisodia Rajputs)and many other ruling clans in South and East India.
* Varman was the official title of the Khmer kings of Cambodia. The king who built Angkor complexes was known as Jayavarman.
* The Rajahs of Kerala/Tamil Nadu also used "Varma" or "Varman" and as a title and surname.
