If Colliers had been chosen, this tragedy might not have occurred. Thus Colliers would have been the first permanent settlement in North America.

Colliers is led by Mayor Patrick Phillips and Deputy Mayor Martin Walsh. MHA Tom Hedderson represents the town in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly, and is currently the Provincial Minister of Transportation and Works.

Colliers is a beautiful town, with rolling hills, rivers and a pituresque harbour that is often home to icebergs. Famous residents of Colliers include former Lt. Gov. James Brown, actor John Ryan and musician Terry McDonald.
