The Centre for the New Europe (CNE) is a free-market think tank located in Brussels, and focused on EU issues such as economic growth, managing environmental change, health and welfare policy, competition policy, and innovation. It was founded in 1993 by the Belgian journalist Paul Belien and lawyer Fernand Keuleneer, with operations starting in 1994. CNE is a member of the Stockholm Network, a consortium of over 100 market-oriented think tanks across Europe. CNE is currently headed by Stephen Pollard, a British journalist and policy expert who previously worked at the Fabian Society and the Social Market Foundation.
Since 2003, CNE has hosted an annual ball, the "Capitalist Ball", that in a short time has become a main society event in Brussels.
