Markdown Extra

Markdown Extra is a lightweight markup language based on Markdown, which implements some added features (such as tables[1]) currently not available with plain Markdown syntax.

It adds the following features to Markdown:

  • Inline HTML
  • Markdown Inside HTML Blocks
  • Header Id Attribute
  • Fenced Code Blocks
  • Tables
  • Definition Lists
  • Footnotes
  • Abbreviations
  • Emphasis
  • Backslash Escapes
