Rodillian High School

Rodillian High School is a secondary school based in south east Leeds with performance Arts College status.

Originally built in 1933 as Rothwell Grammar School to serve the needs of children in Rothwell and the surrounding areas of south Leeds, Rodillian School is one of many High Schools in the Leeds/Wakefield area. In 2007 the school achieved the worst GCSE results in recent years, a mere 6% achieving a pass in every subject, the second worst in West Yorkshire. At the start of the 07/08 term the school appointed John Townsley as executive head teacher. John Townsley recently received an award for the best head teacher of the north.

Numerous staff left the school following (though not directly due to) the departure of John Barret, the former head teacher. Murray Gentle had tought science at Rodillian for decades and has since left. Margaret Howells, an English teacher, has also departed after many years of service.

In March Rodillian was served a noticed to improve by OFSTED after a routine inspection. The terms of the notice include a drastic improvement to English and Mathematics grades. The OFSTED report also cited poor morale amongst staff and inadequate leadership of the sixth form. Rodillian's response to this was to announce that the connection with Royds school may be severed in order to concentrate fully on Rodillian students.

The striking red brick building is due to be demolished in the near future after a new school has been built on site. The new building is now open with the new headtecher Andrew Goulty. Rodillian is also used for Stanley gymnastics club.
