Character information

Katie Landers was a fictional character in the Australian soap opera "Neighbours", played by Sally Jensen. She first appeared in 1988 until the character's departure in 1989. She was Todd Landers' sister and close friends with Toby Mangel.

She was the child of Bob and Annette Landers. Katie was quiet and shy (if not a bit sly) girl after all the problems she encountered at home from her alcoholic ex-soldier father, Bob. They accompanied family friend Hilary Robinson to Erinsborough for the wedding of their aunt and stayed.

Katie's insecurity lapsed considerably once she was welcomed into the stable family environment made friends with Toby Mangel, Jane Harris and Helen Daniels, who also lived at the Robinson house. When Helen received some blackmail letters Katie and Toby found out that the culprit was in fact her father.

Her rabbit

Katie was thrilled when she got a pet rabbit, which she called 'Rupert'. She then decided to become a vegetarian.

This consept would continue for a wile, with both Harold Bishop and his environmentalist daughter Kerry Bishop, who were also veggies. Green issues would become a rather hot topic in the near future among some of the younger characters, including- the environmentally minded and 'Green' leaning Gemma Ramsey, Melanie Pearson, the animal loving Melissa Jarrett and Cody Willis.

Her departure

When Annette felt ready to take Todd and Katie back, the kids were torn between wanting to return to Adelaide to be with their mother again, and staying in Erinsborough with their new family and friends. Katie eventually decided to go back to Adelaide, but Todd Landers was staying Erinsborough because he was going out with Melissa Jarrett. Katie was distressed by going home and gave her pet rabbit, Rupert, to Toby for safe keeping and Toby was happy to take over its care after Katie had left.
