Gemalto (Euronext|GTO) is a vendor of smart cards and other digital security products, with pro forma 2005 annual revenues of $2.2 billion, operations in 120 countries and 11,000 employees including 1,500 R&D engineers. Gemalto was formed in June 2006 by the combination of Axalto and Gemplus International SA.

Gemalto says it delivers secure platforms, services and personal devices, such as smart cards and strong authentication tokens, to over a billion people worldwide. The company’s products aim to make digital interactions more secure and convenient in telecommunications, financial services, e-government, identity management, IT security, internet content providers, and other markets.

In North America, Gemalto deployed:
*11 million Department of Defense Common Access Card identity credentials
*5 million contactless smart cards
*The majority of the 80 million SIM cards in the mobile phones of active GSM subscribers in the region
*Technology for the new electronic passport program
*IT security solutions for 4 of the top 5 oil companies; 3 of top 5 pharmaceutical companies and many large IT technology leaders including Microsoft and Sun Microsystems

The company reported revenue of EUR 760 million and operating income of EUR 15 million at the end of first half of 2007.
