Harborough (IPAEng|hɑːbrə) is a local government district of Leicestershire, England, named after its main town, Market Harborough. Other settlements in the district include Broughton Astley, Lutterworth, Kibworth and Great Easton. The north-western area of the district runs directly into the Leicester urban area, and includes such villages as Thurnby, Bushby and Scraptoft. The district borders on to the Unitary Authority City of Leicester, the Borough of Kettering, the Borough of Corby, the District of Daventry, the Unitary Authority county of Rutland, the Borough of Charnwood and the Borough of Melton as well as the county of Warwickshire.

History

The district was formed in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972. It was a merger of the Market Harborough urban district, along with Market Harborough Rural District, Billesdon Rural District and Lutterworth Rural District. [http://www.harborough.gov.uk/pp/pressrelease/pressdetail.asp?id=2459]
