"Village" was an Irish current affairs magazine founded and edited by Vincent Browne and owned by the Browne family. It was launched in October 2004, and originally was published weekly.

The printing of the 9 September 2005 issue was halted after correspondence with Eddie Hobbs about an article. The magazine has experienced a number of set-backs. According to Phoenix Magazine [Phoenix Magazine] , (which refers to the magazine as "Village Idiot") it owes publisher Vincent Browne also one million euro. The magazine was reduced in size in an effort to control costs in 2005.

In November 2006, the associated web site www.village.ie was launched in a further effort to reduce costs. In January 2007 it was announced that Village Magazine would be published monthly, while concentrating on daily updates via the web site, the magazine showing Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) figures of less than 10,000 copies. However, it failed to appear in February 2007. The March 2007 issue of the magazine featured a new design, with all ABC figures removed.

Village Magazine hired former Irish Independent journalist Justine McCarthy in September 2006. However, she left shortly afterwards to join the Sunday Tribune newspaper. Another columnist, John Waters of the Irish Times no longer writes for the magazine due to his non-payment by the magazine [Phoenix Magazine] .

The magazine relies heavily on work of local to Ireland left-wing writers like Harry Browne and Frank Connolly as well as material already available on internet sources like Counterpunch.org [www.counterpunch.org] and Indymedia.ie [www.indymedia.ie] , and content covered by Browne in his Irish Times column, his RTÉ radio show, and his Sunday Business Post column.

Village Magazine has made a number of embarrassing apologies for incorrect stories, notably a defamatory one about Mary Wallace TD, which saw the magazine pay the Irish parliamentarian damages and costs in an out-of-court settlement [Wallace Gets Apology http://eastmeath.org/blog/?cat=8&paged=2] .

On the 29th of August 2008, Browne announced that the magazine wasceasing publication, although its website would remain online, carryingarchived material [Irish Times: "Village" Magazine to cease publication" [http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2008/0829/1219875242065.html] Irish Independent: Village Magazine Folds [http://www.independent.ie/breaking-news/national-news/village-magazine-folds-1465484.html] ]
