Army of Sambre-et-Meuse

The Army of Sambre-et-Meuse ( _fr. Armée de Sambre-et-Meuse) is the most well known of the armies of the French Revolution. In was formed 29 June, 1794 with the Army of Ardennes reinforced with the left wing of the Army of Moselle and the right wing of the Army of the North.

Reunited with the Army of Rhine-et-Moselle, it later became the Army of Germany.

Battles

After the storm of Tournai and Ostend, the Convention declared that the army had merited honors. The army won more honors after the storm of Brussels, the storm of Maastricht, and the storm of Aix-la-Chapelle. The army participated in the conquest of Holland. In 1796 it crossed the Rhine and faced the Austrians on Lahn.

The Army of Sambre-et-Meuse was noted for its commanders Jean-Baptiste Jourdan and Jean Victor Marie Moreau.
