It currently serves about 3,000 studentsFact|date=October 2007. The school's mascot is the Raider. The 2005-2006 school year brought the largest freshman class to attend Reynolds, a total of 1,027 studentsFact|date=October 2007. It is the most populated high school in the state of Oregon. Reynolds High School's rivals are Gresham High School and Sam Barlow High School.

Merge with Columbia High School

Reynolds High School merged with Columbia High School in the year 1989-1990 and it was decided to name the school Reynolds after the aluminum company in Troutdale. The merging of the two schools led to a strong soccer team that won state. Columbia High School is now the site of Reynolds High School, and the former Reynolds High School is now one of three middle schools in the district, Reynolds Middle School.

Academics

In 2000, Reynolds was honored as a New American High Schools "showcase site", serving as a model for other high schools around the nation. Academically, the school offers many tracks and offers courses through the neighboring Mount Hood Community College so that students can earn college credit while still in high school. The school offers alternative programs including the Reynolds Learning Academy, the Natural Resource Academy and the Center for Advanced Learning which is a program shared by numerous neighboring districts such as Centennial, Gresham-Barlow and Corbett.

Dropout Factory

In October 2007, the results of a John Hopkins University study showed Reynolds to be a "dropout factory" meaning less than 60% of students complete their senior year. Faculty and students alike were appalled by the findings and automatically questioned, "Were the students at the alternative schools counted?" As it showed, they were not. Students who go to alternative schools within the district such as the Reynolds Learning Academy, Natural Resource Academy and the Center for Advanced Learning were not included in the study.

Despite these mistakes, Principal Kevin Kannier was reported saying that a key factor in Reynolds' dropout rate was due to the school's credit requirement for graduation, 27; the largest in the state of Oregon. Athletics

Clive Charles began his coaching career with the Reynolds High School boy's soccer team after retiring from playing professional soccer in 1982. In 1986, he left Reynolds to coach the University of Portland men's, and eventually women's, soccer teams. He was a superb coach, taking the U.S. to a fourth place finish at the 2000 Summer Olympics and winning the 2002 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship. He was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 2003 and he also died of cancer.

The 2002 baseball team had the best record in the Mt. Hood Conference play in history, going 15-1.

The Reynolds dance team won the OSAA State Dance and Drill Championships in 2003 and again in 2007 under Head Coach Holly Holbert.

Among other sports teams that have had success are the tennis teams, basketball, volleyball, cross country, swimming, water polo, wrestling, baseball, softball, track and field, raquetball, and chess.

Music Program

Currently the Reynolds music program consists of three bands, three orchestras and numerous choirs, all of which have had success statewide.
