Stębark

Stębark

Stębark (Audio-de|Tannenberg|Tannenberg.ogg) is a village which is today in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, Poland. The village is part of Gmina Grunwald in Powiat Ostródzki. Prior to 1945 it was within East Prussia.

The immediate district is primarily known for two historic battles which took place there. On 15 July 1410 a united army of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, with additional mercenary troops from Bohemia, defeated the Teutonic Knights at the First Battle of Tannenberg in 1410.

In 1914 during World War I a German army under the command of Field Marshal Paul von Hindenburg won an important victory over two Russian armies in the Second Battle of Tannenberg who had invaded East Prussia.

Tannenbergstellung refers to the World War II Eastern Front campaign held in Estonia through most of 1944.
