The College

Cyprus College is the oldest University College in Cyprus, founded in 1961. It is one of the biggest University Colleges in Cyprus with state-of-the-art computing, library and athletic facilities. The accreditation of the Cyprus College degrees, high caliber faculty and recognition by European and American Universities concluded that Cyprus College is the college with the highest standard of education in Cyprus.

History

Cyprus College was founded in 1961 by Ioannis Gregoriou. His purpose was to provide a well-rounded education of high caliber where students would acquire the necessary academic and practical knowledge in the field of Business Administration. Furthermore, due to the increased needs of students and the needs of the Cyprus Economy, more programs have been added in the last few years.

In 1984 the Computer Science School was created to address the emerging needs of the information technology field. In 1987 a Graduate program (the Master of Business Administration degree) and the Office Administration program were introduced. In 1989 the Travel and Tourism program was developed. With the formation of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Social Sciences program was developed during the academic year 1995-96, the European Studies program in 1997-1998, the English Language and Literature Program in 2002, and the Psychology Program in 2003.

In 1998 the School of Professional Studies had been formed through the acquisition of BPP College, an institution which offered primarily professional programs. Thus, the College today, by expanding into the field of professional courses, offers tuition leading to the ACCA,[1] ICAEW, CAT, DiplFR and CFA qualifications.[2]

University Involvement

On 24 February 2006 an application was filed for the establishment and operation of a private University according to the “Private Universities (Establishment, Operation and Control) Law 109(1) of 2005".[3] The application evaluation process by the Evaluation Committee of Private Universities of the Republic of Cyprus, which was laborious and involved on-site visits of several evaluation teams, led to the acceptance of the application in September 2007.[4] On 12 September 2007, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cyprus rendered a decision for the establishment and operation of European University - Cyprus, and licensed it to start its operation as of 1 October 2007, with four Schools, namely, the School of Arts and Education Sciences, the School of Business Administration, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the School of Sciences. All undergraduate and postgraduate programs offered by European University Cyprus are recognized nationally and internationally.[5][6][7][8]

College Today

A major development in the College’s history took place in 2000, when programs of study leading to Diploma, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees were accredited by the Accreditation Council (SEKAP) of the Republic of Cyprus.[9]

In the Fall Semester 2010 due to growing demand the Limassol campus started its operation offering diplomas and professional courses.

Today, Cyprus College continues to grow, offering programs leading to diplomas and higher diplomas and prepares students for professional courses such as ACCA,[10] ICAEW, CAT, DiplFR and CFA qualifications.
