Afrit in the Qur'an

Afrit is mentioned in the Qur'an, Sura An-Naml (27:39-40)

:An ‘Afrît (strong one) from the jinn said: "I will bring it to you before you rise from your place. And verily, I am indeed strong, and trustworthy for such work. One with whom was knowledge of the Scripture said: "I will bring it to you within the twinkling of an eye!" Then when Solomon saw it placed before him, he said: "This is by the Grace of my Lord - to test me whether I am grateful or ungrateful! And whoever is grateful, truly, his gratitude is for (the good of) his ownself; and whoever is ungrateful, (he is ungrateful only for the loss of his ownself). Certainly my Lord is Rich (Free of all needs), Bountiful. Sura An-Naml:40. (27:40)

Use in computer games

In some computer games the Jinn are broken into five classes (jinn, jann, ifrit, maryut, and shaitan)Fact|date=August 2008, each more powerful than the previous. This typology, though widely used in fantasy fiction and role-playing games appears to be of European originFact|date=August 2008 and has no real basis in Arabic lore. The "Dungeons & Dragons" "Monster Manual" also has a class hierarchy, in which the Ifrit (Efreeti) is a more powerful monster than the jinn and the jann. In the "Final Fantasy" series of games, Ifrit is the name of a summoned monster, often associated with the element of fire. In Might and Magic 6, there is a monster type including the a "Genie", "Djinn", and "Efreet", each being more powerful than the last. The Genie using water magic, the Djinn using air magic (lightning), and the Efreet using fire magic. In Devil May Cry, Ifrit appears as a pair of fire gauntlets obtained by Dante, which were once owned by a powerful demon. An Ifrit also appears as a boss in Sonic and the Secret Rings
